Alert! Realtime Register’s Name Used in Phishing Mails!

Currently, high-profile domain registrars are being targeted for phishing attacks against domain owners.

Some of the attackers use Realtime Register branded emails to target our resellers and their end users. The fraudulent emails claim that a particular domain name has been suspended, and ask users to click a link. The emails are sent from the email address abuse[at]realtimeregister.com.org, or something similar.

We ask you, as a Realtime Register reseller, to be alert of these fraudulent emails. We strongly advise you to communicate this information to your customers and end users.

Google gives .tel an “Awesome” rating

I thought that I would share with you some information from Google. Over the next few weeks, Google will be appending a “mobile friendly” label to mobile search results to make it easier for mobile searchers to determine if the content will render well on their mobile device.

A page is eligible for the “mobile-friendly” label if it meets the following criteria as detected by Google’s Googlebot:

  • Avoids software that is not common on mobile devices, like Flash
  • Uses text that is readable without zooming

September 10th the new Realtime Register 2.1 system has been released to the OT&E environment. Realtime Register 2.1 ensures compliance with the RAA 2013. We are planning to release version 2.1 to the production environment on Monday September 22th.

Preparations for ICANN RAA2013

A. DNSSEC available
In the Realtime Register Domain Manager DNSSEC options are available for supported TLDs. You might want to test this feature In the Realtime Register (OT&E) environment first. Please note; at this time we support customer maintained name servers only.

B.  Validation of registrants for gTLD’s
The new ICANN policy requires the registered domain name holder (registrant) to validate its details like e-mail address etcetera in order to increase WHOIS accuracy.

According to a post from ICANN there are currently 889 users registered in the TLD Application System (TAS). Each user can apply for 50 TLD’s. 50×889 = 44450. A staggering number that surely will not be met. Industry experts expect around 2000 applications.

Tremendous anticipation, planning, and work drove toward 12 January, 2012, the day ICANN began accepting applications for new gTLDs.

Number of registered domain names keeps growing

VeriSign logoAccording to a Verisign press release, the Internet has grown to nearly 220 Million domain names in third quarter of 2011. This total number boils down to an accumulate growth over the first three quarters of 2010 of over 7 percent. The year-over-year growth was a 5.9 percent for new registrations of the VeriSign generic TLD’s .COM and .NET.
