Realtime Register has made good progress with the preparations for the new ICANN RAA 2013. Below is a summary of important issues to consider. Please note the information sent earlier and available on our blog is still valid. We expect the new contract to be effective at the end of this quarter.

Verification for updates of the registrant is demanded under the new contract. For contacts that are not up to date, we strongly advise you to update these before the ICANN RAA 2013 is effective. Please do so to avoid additional verifications.

Preparations for ICANN RAA2013

A. DNSSEC available
In the Realtime Register Domain Manager DNSSEC options are available for supported TLDs. You might want to test this feature In the Realtime Register (OT&E) environment first. Please note; at this time we support customer maintained name servers only.

B.  Validation of registrants for gTLD’s
The new ICANN policy requires the registered domain name holder (registrant) to validate its details like e-mail address etcetera in order to increase WHOIS accuracy.

Realtime Register is preparing to sign the new ICANN contract. This contract is also referred to as the “ICANN 2013 RAA”. This e-mail highlights the upcoming changes.

A.  Validation of registered domain name holders for gTLD’s
Realtime Register is required to validate the registered domain name holder in the following instances:

•  after domain name registration
•  before domain transfer
•  before a contact update.

This will lead to a higher accuracy level of WHOIS data and will be done through automatic verification e-mails to your customers that will be send in your name and under your brand.

Registrar Negotiating Team Statement On The 2013 RAA

Last night ICANN published an updated version of the registrar accreditation agreement 2013 with additional documents. Though the Registrar negotiation team has been working on this for 18 months in conjunction with ICANN staff they feel that the publishing of the documents was to premature.

The Russian registry, ccTLD RU, announced that .RU reached the  4 million domains milestone. It took the Russian Registry two years to reach 4 million domain names registrations. ccTLD RU crossed the 3 million barrier on september 25, 2010.

On may 13, 2010 the Russian registry released the IDN TLD .РФ which reached 1 million registrations within eleven months after it was launched.
