We would like to inform you about a proposed change in ICANN's fee structure that may impact the pricing of generic top-level domains (gTLDs) such as .com, .net, .shop, and others.
What's changing?
ICANN has proposed increasing the per-domain transaction fee from $0.18 to $0.20. This fee applies to each domain registration, renewal, or transfer for gTLDs.
Current Fee: $0.18 per domain
Proposed Fee (Effective July 1, 2025): $0.20 per domain
This adjustment is part of ICANN's fiscal year 2026 budget proposal and is subject to approval by ICANN-accredited registrars. If approved, the new fee would apply to transactions processed from July 1, 2025, onward, with the first invoices reflecting the increased fee issued in October 2025.
Uncertainty Regarding Fee Implementation
The implementation of the proposed fee increase is contingent upon the outcome of a registrar vote:
If Approved by Registrars: The increased fee will be billed directly to registrars, who may choose to pass this cost on to registrants.
If Not Approved by Registrars: ICANN may collect the increased fee through registries, who would then pass the cost to registrars. This indirect method could introduce delays and additional complexity.
