The Finnish registry (Traficom) is introducing registrant contact validation for all .FI domain names.
At Realtime Register, we’ll handle this using the same familiar validation flow we already use for gTLDs, so there’s no additional complexity for our partners or customers.
What You Can Expect
- New registrations and contact changes: When a new .FI domain is registered or when registrant contact details are updated, the registrant will receive a verification email. They must confirm the details via the verification link.
 - Additional registry checks:
Traficom may perform risk-based checks on certain registrations. - Possible delays:
Missing, inaccurate, or unverified contact data may delay activation or updates.
Best Practices and Recommendations
To ensure smooth domain operations, we recommend the following steps:
- Verify contact details before submission
Double-check the registrant’s email address and physical address before submitting new .FI registrations or contact updates. - Prompt verification
Inform your customers that they need to click the verification link promptly to avoid activation or update delays. - Maintain accurate public procedures
Under the NIS2 directive, registrars must:
a. Respond to lawful data-access requests within 72 hours, and
b. Publish clear policies on data accuracy and disclosure.
Make sure your public procedures reflect these requirements and remain up to date.
