The .MUSIC registry has released significant updates to its Registrar Requirements Policy and Registrant Eligibility Policy, reinforcing its commitment to identity verification, community integrity, and abuse prevention.

Realtime Register has reviewed these changes and is actively ensuring alignment with the updated rules to maintain compliance and protect your customers.

Key policy changes at a glance

1. Registrar Requirements Policy

Expanded abusive behavior definitions

Practices like frontrunning, withholding transfer codes, or monetizing expiring domains without consent are now explicitly prohibited.

New notification requirements

You must clearly notify registrants before and after registration that:

  • Identity verification via government-issued ID is mandatory;
  • Domains remain on “Registry Server Hold” until verified;
  • Verification must be completed within 90 days to avoid revocation.

No proxy or privacy services allowed

Registrars, affiliates, and resellers may not offer privacy or proxy registrations for .MUSIC domains.

Enforcement provisions

Non-compliance may result in suspension or termination of the Registry-Registrar Agreement.

2. Registrant Eligibility Policy

Mandatory identity & nexus verification

Every registrant must pass identity checks and submit a “Music Profile” proving ties to the music industry. Failure to do so within 90 days may lead to revocation.

New Registrant? Re-Verify.

When a domain changes hands, the new registrant has 30 days to complete all required verifications.

No Domain Warehousing

Speculative or bulk registrations for resale are prohibited unless explicitly approved for “Industry Class” entities.

Automated Enforcement Tools

The registry will use AI scanning to detect abuse. Violations may result in immediate domain revocation without refund.
