On 2 July 2026, members of the Realtime Register team travelled to Bunnik to attend the annual SIDN BBQ. This year’s edition was particularly special, marking two significant milestones for the Dutch internet community: 40 years of .nl and 30 years of SIDN.
The SIDN BBQ has long been one of the highlights of the Dutch domain industry’s calendar, bringing together registrars, partners, and industry professionals in an informal setting. As always, it provided a great opportunity to reconnect with familiar faces, meet new contacts, and discuss the developments shaping our industry.
The festivities kicked off with a special anniversary pub quiz hosted by a professional quizmaster. The questions covered the history of .nl, SIDN, and the Dutch registrar community, testing participants’ knowledge of four decades of domain name history.
We’re delighted to share that the Realtime Register team, joined by Wido Potters from BIT, emerged as the overall winner of the quiz. It was a fun way to start the event and a fitting tribute to the rich history of the Dutch domain industry.
While the quiz provided plenty of competition, the real value of the SIDN BBQ lies in the opportunity to connect with peers from across the industry.
Throughout the evening, attendees enjoyed conversations with colleagues, partners, and friends from the registrar community. There was also no shortage of entertainment, with F1 simulators, Mario Kart, arcade games, table football, and even some impressive magic performances providing plenty of fun between discussions.
And, of course, no SIDN BBQ would be complete without an excellent barbecue and buffet, bringing everyone together to enjoy a relaxed summer evening.
The 2026 edition of the SIDN BBQ served as a reminder of how far the Dutch internet ecosystem has come. Since the introduction of the .nl domain in 1986, the Dutch domain community has grown into one of the strongest and most innovative internet communities in the world.
As a registrar and long-standing participant in the domain industry, Realtime Register is proud to be part of that community and to contribute to its continued growth.
