From 1 October 2026, Austria's .at, .co.at and .or.at domain extensions will fall under the country's new NIS2 legislation (NISG 2026). As a result, the registry, nic.at, must ensure that registrant information is accurate and may request verification of domain holder details when needed.
The good news? We've already built the required processes into our platform, similar to the changes previously introduced for .de domains. That means there's no technical work or integration changes required on your side.
For all new registrations and registrant updates, contact details must be complete and accurate. This includes the registrant's name, address, email address and phone number. Registrations containing incomplete or clearly incorrect information may be rejected by the registry.
In some cases, nic.at may also request verification of a registrant's details. If this happens, we'll manage the verification process through our platform and contact the registrant with the required instructions.
If the requested information cannot be verified within the registry's deadline, the domain may be suspended. This means the website and email services linked to the domain will stop working until the issue is resolved.
