Action required: New verification requirements for .ru, .рф and .su domains

From 1 September 2026, the registry will introduce new identification requirements for .ru, .рф and .su  domain names. To continue managing these domains without interruption, every domain holder must use one of the registry's approved verification methods.

Without a completed verification, the following operations will no longer be possible:

  • Registering new domains
  • Renewing existing domains
  • Updating nameservers
  • Changing the domain holder

Two verification options

1. Gosuslugi / ESIA verification

This option is intended for Russian individuals and organisations. The domain holder completes the verification directly through the RU-CENTER portal using their Gosuslugi / ESIA account.

2. Realtime Register Local Contact

If the domain holder cannot or does not wish to use Gosuslugi / ESIA, you can use our Local Contact service (also referred to by the registry as a Trustee service).

The service has a one-time activation fee and renews together with the domain. Pricing is specific to your account and can be found in the Realtime Register Portal under Account → Price List.

Please note that activating the Local Contact service does not extend the domain's registration period. Where possible, we recommend renewing the domain before activating the service to avoid activation and renewal costs occurring close together.

What we need from you

To ensure everything is in place before the new requirements take effect, please let us know:

  • Which domains will use the Realtime Register Local Contact service.
  • Which domain holders will complete Gosuslugi / ESIA verification themselves.

To help us process requests in time, please send your initial list by 10 August 2026. Requests submitted after this date can still be handled, but sending them early reduces the risk of delays before the 1 September deadline.
